Spoiler-Free Review:

John Carpenter Presents Tales of Science Fiction: Vortex 2.0 Issue 3 (of 8) starts off where the Issue 2 left, and continues the story of Jake Dixon, the hero of the first series- Vortex 1- now the prime suspect of murders happening in the future space world due to a mysterious alien symbiotic substance. Jake Dixon somehow escaped the jail thanks to his former flight-mate Anna Cheron, and now has crash landed into a space colony where his newly found friends live. This issue tells more about them, the alien phenomenon, and how the authorities are tracking down Jake Dixon while dealing with the strange occurrences around the space.

Jake Dixon, and Anna Cheron didn’t know that they would meet outlaws who are as interested as them in the alien incident that happened 20 years ago, which was shown with full details in Vortex 1. Their new friend, Dusty, is a lady who had been studying the incident, and Dixon’s involvement for years, and now the destiny has brought Jake to her as if assembling a dream team to counter the alien crisis. This issue explains a lot of things about what happened to humans after the discovery of alien symbiotic substance, and also how humans tried to create clone Earths to make more home planets as the current Earth was no longer able to fulfill the fuel, water, and other resource needs of humans. The new scary terms like “quarantine”, and “lockdown” that form eerie parallel to what’s happening right now due to the Corona outbreak are also seen in the context of environment & space. This issue provides a glimpse of the research on the symbiotic creatures, then some scary scenes with odd outcome which portray how aliens intruded the human colonies after the discovery of the substance only showed the positives of the symbiotic substance. This issue ends with a clear goal in front of Jake Dixon, as he teams up with the new friends to go back to the place where the horror started, and now the human race’s survival is at stake. The sneak peek of Issue 4 shows extremely scary visuals with some twist in the alien theory, and would make the readers anticipate the next issue eagerly.

The horror comic is full of great visuals, horror is intense, and the gore is realistic. The colorful illustrations are life-like, and in sync with the signature Storm King style. Dialogues are well written as the story becomes more and more intriguing with each scenario. No nudity, no suggestive themes, or vulgar language but some strong language is used during stressful or funny sequences. The comic is an awesome read for any mature sci-fi or horror fan.

In conclusion, John Carpenter Presents Tales of Science Fiction: Vortex 2.0 Issue 3 (of 8) is a scary, fun, and entertaining comic book which will be surely loved by sci-fi horror fans. The story is fast paced, filled with twists, shocking visuals, interesting characters, and a future space world that’s near perfect yet scary as readers uncover deep secrets which are as shocking as the alien monsters themselves. A must buy value for money sci-fi space horror comic book!
