Spoiler-Free Review:-

The Devil’s Prayer novel as the name suggests deals with an interesting story about a prayer to the Devil but that’s not the only reason why it’s worth reading. Besides the present story that ties with an ancient story of a monk making a deal with the Devil, there’s action, drama, humor, and information about art in this novel that makes it very entertaining from the start to finish.

It all starts off in a scary situation of a monk given an impossible task of writing a thousands of pages in one night failing to do so, he’d get the death penalty. To do it miraculously, he contacts the Devil to do the deed but at a cost. He had to make a few pages that contained a prayer to summon the Devil. Supposedly cursed, novelist J.D. Oliva combines real facts and fiction to show why the pages cause trouble wherever they are kept.

Coming back to the present day, there’s a heist in an Amsterdam art museum which ends up with thieves getting shot, and a different worthless art piece getting stolen instead of a priceless one. This is when the readers see Dana O’Brien enter the story, who is a freelance journalist now after getting a big break through her coverage of an incident in Chicago involving a serial killer, and a werewolf. The latter part was hidden by her but the murder mystery itself made her famous. The exciting incident is worth reading from J. D. Oliva’s novel “Harvest Moon”. Now, in Europe, she does her own investigation, meets a Reverend Julia, and a local cop, then the museum tour guide who witnessed the art heist.

Ethan Jericho, a “for hire” problem solver for people with samurai survival skills, ninja-like ability to do things without leaving a trace, while also running a legit security system business has decided to retire after the scary werewolf incident that almost killed him. While enjoying his retirement, he gets an unsolicited visitor who asks him for help which seems to be related to the art heist. That unknown man leaves a portfolio bag with a few old pages, and that’s when Jericho’s troubles start which force him to come out of retirement.

Dana and Jericho’s path cross during their own ordeals. They decide to help each other out and solve this puzzle which leads them to revelations about cults, art, and human nature as a whole. Narration, some outrageous situations, and many different kinds of characters show the versatile writing skills of the author, J. D. Oliva combines his own experience of the cities, people, wrestling, and imagination to tell a story that never gets dull, and action sequences that are very realistically described. There are many Easter Eggs and references to other J.D. Oliva novels, real life brands which make it an enjoyable read.

In conclusion, J. D. Oliva’s The Devil’s Prayer action thriller novel is full of interesting characters, suspense, action, thrills, and an enjoyable story that keeps you interested from the start to the end. While the novel is enjoyable as a standalone book, it is an even more enriching experience when read after reading Harvest Moon, The Book of Jericho, and Hawk Hallow. The world created by J.D. Oliva will keep you entertained and amazed!   Highly recommended for all thriller fans looking for something new & interesting to read
